Week 4 was the shortest yet! Due to hurricane Dorian, school was only in session on Friday, 9/6. Week 5 was filled with meetings, trainings, classroom presentations, and planning. This post will cover Suicide Prevention Week, Counselor Connect Expo, and a classroom presentation.
Suicide Prevention Week
Brevard is recognizing next week, 9/16-9/20, as Suicide Prevention Week.
Facts from The Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE):
- 1 in 100,000 children aged 10-14 die by suicide each year
- 7 in 100,000 teens aged 15-19 die by suicide each year
- Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in ages 15-24
These are alarming statistics that show how prevalent suicide is. Suicide is 100% preventable. It is so important for students to understand they are not alone and they can get help. Use the resources below, and talk to your School Counselor. For more statistics and information, visit: https://save.org/about-suicide/suicide-facts/.
Counselor Connect Expo
September 26th from 6pm-8pm is our first biannual Counselor Connect Expo! This event is for both parents and students of all grade levels. Everyone will meet in the CBHS Auditorium. Then everyone will choose the breakout sessions they want to attend. There will be a session for everyone-Middle School students, High School students, and IB students. Over 12 different topics will be presented. Can’t wait to see you all there!
This week I went into Ms. Siljestrom’s Career Research class, and spoke with her mostly 9th grade class. We talked about high school graduation requirements, GPA, IB vs AP vs Dual Enrollment, and planned the next 4 years of high school. Click on the presentation below for more information.
Thanks for visiting! See you next week for Week 6!
