A field trip to Eastern Florida State College, and a reminder about FAFSA!
On Thursday I went with 18 seniors to Eastern Florida State College’s annual College for a Day event. Seniors from all high schools in the county joined us. When we arrived there were several tables setup where the students got to explore different majors from Drafting to Health Sciences. There was also a table setup about the Honors College (yes, EFSC does have an Honors College). A photo booth was also featured in the lobby. Once in the gym, there was a DJ, performances by the EFSC cheerleaders, and a motivational speech by one of the provosts. Students were then dismissed by the major they indicated during registration. The group I followed first got to take career exploration assessments with the help from one of the Career Center advisers. Students got to explore job outlooks, salary, and types of education needed for the careers they were matched with. Next, we visited an English elective class where students got to learn about Alice Walker, author of The Color Purple. Then the students went on a tour of EFSC, led by one of the academic advisers. The other groups were able to learn about the majors they selected, and one group learned how to write essays. Next, was a free Chick-fil-A lunch followed by the EFSC men’s basketball playing a game against each other. Last but not least were give-a-ways. EFSC gave out 4 scholarships! A huge thank you to EFSC, our students had a great day!
Seniors! The 2020-2021 FAFSA is now open! Everyone needs to apply. Many colleges cannot offer you other scholarships until you have completed the FAFSA. The earlier you apply, the more money you can be eligible for. Apply now!
